Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
