Some things to know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
