Tips to get the best rental home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Summer is high season in the Beaufort, SC area. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Beaufort, SC area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
