Rental booking tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Port Royal. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, SC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by having your family decide on the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Lowcountry cottage sleeps 6 - close to PARRIS ISLAND, BEAUFORT and BEACHES. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Beaufort, SC rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a specific Beaufort, SC destination you love, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
