Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Beaufort, SC area. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, SC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Beaufort, SC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain deals for local shops and restaurants.

Choosing the perfect rental home:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Fripp Coastal Cottage at Quail Cove - Hot Tub! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
