Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To find the best value, try changing your family's Beaufort, SC vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, SC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Second Star with it's own private pool and spa! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your family.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
