Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:

Finding the best value:

  • The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • To find the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, SC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Beaufort, SC area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. New to VRBO! Resort Access Included! 406 Capt John Fripp Villa II. Perfect Central Fripp Island Location! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
